West Yorkshire Police are currently seeing a rise in burglaries across Leeds where offenders are specifically targeting gold jewellery. With gold prices remaining high, this type of property has become a key target for organised burglars.

Offenders are mainly entering through rear doors or windows and heading straight for bedrooms to search for jewellery. Victim reports show that a significant number of those targeted in Leeds are from the Asian community, where family gold is often kept inside the home.

How to protect your home and valuables:

  • Keep jewellery in a secure, fixed safe.
  • Consider off site secure storage for high value or sentimental gold.
  • Use alarms, CCTV, timer lights, and improved locks to deter offenders.
  • Leave your home looking lived in if you are going out.
  • Don’t show off any jewellery in social media posts.
  • Report suspicious behaviour or vehicles in your local area.

If you see anything concerning, please call 101, or 999 if a crime is in progress.
