Jewellery / “Family Gold” Burglaries

West Yorkshire Police are currently seeing a rise in burglaries across Leeds where offenders are specifically targeting gold jewellery. With gold prices remaining high, this type of property has become a key target for organised burglars.

Offenders are mainly entering through rear doors or windows and heading straight for bedrooms to search for jewellery. Victim reports show that a significant number of those targeted in Leeds are from the Asian community, where family gold is often kept inside the home.

How to protect your home and valuables:

Keep jewellery in a secure, fixed safe.
Consider off site secure storage for high value or sentimental gold.
Use alarms, CCTV, timer lights, and improved locks to deter offenders.
Leave your home looking lived in if you are going out.
Don’t show off any jewellery in social media posts.
Report suspicious behaviour or vehicles in your local area.
