A petition has been started to ask Leeds City Council Highways to look at an HGV restriction on the A659 between Collingham and Pool-in-Wharfedale (including Harewood and Arthington). There will be HGVs that need to essentially move through the area e.g. farm vehicles or deliveries, so this is more about the large multiple axle, 10 wheel juggernauts.

With over 500 people signed up already there is clearly a public mood to see a review.

Harewood Parish Council has been notified of this petition by Leeds Councillor Mathew Robinson who is seeking a wider look at HGVs using roads in the Outer North East. He is keen to get greater clarity on all the restrictions and enforcing them. At the moment there seems to be little clarity. He wishes to reassure constituents that the above petition is not intended to move HGV traffic onto other roads e.g.A58, but rather that they should use the A1 as was originally intended.

Harewood Parish Councillors are concerned about the considerable rise in the number of heavy goods vehicles now using the A659.
