All planning applications submitted to Leeds City Council in respect of properties in the parish to be built or significantly altered are forwarded to Harewood Parish Council.
These notifications are sent to Councillors for study and are discussed at the next appropriate council meeting. Each council meeting includes an agenda item on planning. Councillors consider the applications received and decide on their formal comments to be communicated to Leeds City Council. Normally 21 days are allowed for the return of comments. but the Parish Council can ask for an extension if applications need more time for consideration. Council meetings are public and parishioners are welcome to attend to hear applications discussed. If there are points of view that they would wish to be heard, a request to comment may be made to the chair. Developers may also request to address the Council.
If Harewood Parish Council objects to a Planning Application we can contact Leeds City Council Planning Office for further information and also notify the elected Leeds City Council Ward Councillors of our decision if we wish to represent our views at Leeds City Council Planning Meetings.
Harewood Parish Council has no executive responsibility for planning decisions. The Council role is confined to making comments on applications informed by the views of Members and of parish residents. In coming to their view on a planning application, Councillors will consider representations made by residents closely affected by a development. Specific local objections to a planning proposal should always be made directly to Leeds City Council.
