High Speed Broadband

The rollout of Superfast Broadband has allowed many properties in Harewood village to connect to faster internet services but there are still some areas that cannot.  Harewood Parish Council is currently pursuing a Community Fibre Partnership option to bring Superfast Broadband to Harewood Mews. We are also in consultation with Leeds City Council to ensure that all areas of the village will have access to better Broadband speeds

Harewood Recreation Project

An important milestone was reached this week when tenders for developing the recreation area on Malt Kiln Lane were received. The project has been funded from the Emmerdale Fund and the community infrastructure levy on the Harewood Villas development. The new facility will feature a children’s playground, an adult gym and a tennis court. A wildflower meadow and habitat for wildlife have been incorprated into the design to retain the natural character of the area. The plan also includes restoration of the bowling green by Samuel Smith's Brewery but the impact of Covid-19 on the hospitality industry means that this phase of the development will be delayed for the time being.

The aim is to provide a community recreation area for our Parish residents to be enjoyed by people of all ages. We will keep you up to date with progress as the development gets under way.

Temporary closure of the Harewood Wall side permissive path

Harewood Estate will be restricting access to the Wallside Permissive Path during the first two weeks of September. This path runs parallel to the Estate boundary starting near the main entrance and going south towards Leeds.

The Notification of Intended Closure gives further details and a map showing the location of the path.

Leeds Council seeks planning permission for Alwoodley Park and Ride

The proposed Park and Ride to be sited on the opposite side of the A61 to the Grammar School at Leeds has been submitted for planning approval. This is despite earlier notification that the scheme had not been prioritised for funding. The Parish Council supports the new park and ride scheme and is keen to encourage the use of public transport for people travelling to Leeds. We hope it will reduce pressure on parking in Harewood and the residential roads in Wigton. It could also make an important contribution towards reducing congestion and pollution in the city centre.

Come along and join us for a little Christmas Cheer!

Councillor Julie Frankland stepped down from Harewood Parish Council in July, Julie is a well known member of the Harewood village community and provided a valuable  link between the Parish Council and other community organisations. She will be greatly missed and we thank her sincerely for her contribution during the time that she served on the Parish Council.

We now have three vacancies for Councillors to represent the Wigton Ward. If you live in the Parish, and you are interested in getting involved with your community, please get in touch. We would be very happy to talk to you about the role.
